Shrek
The Shrek films, at their heart, are about Shrek’s search for his place in the world as he is cast as the unlikely hero of his own fairy tale. His journey ends up being one of self-discovery, where he learns that his “happily ever after” is very different from what he ever thought it would be. Befriending a wise-crackin’ talking burro and swashbuckling kitty with swagger, and winning the heart of an outcast princess who is “by day one way and by night another”, Shrek’s story is a laugh-out-loud hilarious and heartfelt adventure set at the playfully irreverent intersection of pop culture and fairy tales.
In each chapter, Shrek starts out convinced that all he wants is to return to his old life without being bothered by the outside world. However, he inevitably learns more about what he’s capable of being and ultimately what he truly wants from life.
