On April 15, 1947, when he stepped on Ebbet’s Field in Brooklyn to compete for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jackie Robinson, broke the color barrier in baseball – a sport that had been segregated for more than 50 years.

By breaking the color barrier in the sport known as “America’s National Pastime”, Jackie Robinson, and his #42 jersey, became forever etched in American’s civil rights history as an inspirational icon of perseverance, hope and reconciliation.

Jackie Robinson is not only an athlete of incredible talent, but a person of incredible character. His legacy was define by barriers broken and bridges built, and his impact lives on forever.

Jackie’s legacy is carried on by the Jackie Robinson Foundation whose mission is to address the achievement gap in higher education by awarding scholarship grants and comprehensive support services to highly motivated students of color with strong capabilities but limited resources.
