George Best (22 May 1946 – 25 November 2005) was a professional footballer born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In international football, Best was an automatic choice when fit, being capped 37 times for Northern Ireland and scoring nine goals from 1964 to 1977.
Along with two Football League Championship Winner’s Medals (1965 and 1967) and a UEFA European Cup Winner’s Medal (1968), Best also accumulated many accolades off the field. 1968 he was named European Footballer of the Year and the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year. In 2002, he received the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and he was also the inaugural inductee in the English Football Hall of Fame.
