At just 22 years, Mao Asada stands at the top of Figure Skating. Having won everything at junior level, Mao couldn’t have broken into the senior global circuit soon enough for her adoring fans. Since her senior debut she went into every competition as a contender, and justified her popularity with great performances, including winning the Gold medal in the 2008 and 2010 World Championships.
Even before winning a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics, where she was given the honour of being Japans flag bearer at the closing ceremony, Mao was the pride of a nation for her elegance and artistry. Her symbolic role as a jewel of Japanese sport landed her much commercial attention and prompted the decision to name her a good will ambassador to Canada. With so much time ahead of her in figure skating, Mao Asada has already become a “brand” in her own right. An aesthetic, youthful and spirited brand, Mao Asada inspires with her grace.
